It does not mean, however, that men can’t be doing more to safeguard their prostate health.
The harsh reality is that as men age, they do become more likely to develop prostate complaints. Conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia, for example, become much more likely with age. Estimations show that about 80 per cent of men will develop this condition by age 80 .
The chances of contracting prostate cancer also increase with age. By 40, a man has a 1 in 1,000 chance of getting prostate cancer. At 70, the numbers rise to 80 in 1,000.
Although a good prostate test is reason for encouragement, it does not mean that other measures shouldn’t come into play to safeguard health. If preventative measures are not already being taken, this would be the perfect time to start.
When men want to increase their odds of maintaining prostate health, they can take several steps. Using supplements can prevent certain prostate conditions, for example. Supplements that include lycopene and pumpkin seeds can be very useful. So can minerals like selenium and zinc . It can also be very helpful to work exercise, a low-fat diet and other wise lifestyle choices into daily life.
When a standard prostate exam produces good results, it does not mean that health will maintain with age. Men can take steps to prevent conditions before they arise.
